Hosta Collection
Hosta or funkia lilies are versatile plants that come in a wide variety of sizes, textures and colors. They will grow in the shade but also perform well in the sun if they are watered regularly. Hosta leaves can be green, blue, yellow or variegated. They can be smooth, puckered, heart-shaped or narrow. Some will only reach 4 inches in height while others grow to 3 feet tall. While hostas are grown for their foliage they also flower. Some of our favorites include… Patriot, Sieboldiana Elegans, Love Pat, Sea Drift and Ventricosa.
Daylily Collection
Daylilies love the sun and can grow in poor, dry soils. Their flower stalks rise above grass-like leaves. You can find daylilies with yellow, peach, pink, rose, purple, orange, red, cream or multi-colored flowers. Some varieties bloom in late June while others bloom in August but most flower in July. Some, like Stella d’Oro flower throughout the summer. Daylilies are best divided in August or September. It is hard to beat Hyperion if you are looking for a clear, tall, yellow daylily. Would you like a lovely rose flowered daylily? Try Strawberry Velvet. Applewood’s daylily collection includes 36 different varieties and reaches its peak in mid-July.
